Form & Content Project; GD3
This is my first blog post reflecting on projects from my Graphic Design 3 class. I will label in the title “GD3″ for the ones that correspond to this class.
I was assigned the Form and Content project a few days ago in Graphic Design 3. We had to create visually interesting collages in class on Tuesday. Our next step is to introduce typography to our collages to create a poster. I created a few overlay sketches on tracing paper on Thursday.

The collage I choose to use as a poster.
I was having some trouble proposing content for the poster. My professor said my collage work seemed very surrealist. At first I was brainstorming a surrealist art exhibit poster, but it seemed expected. After word mapping some ideas, I concluded with the idea of dreams. Since the image had such a surrealist view, I thought the topic of the psychological meaning of dreams would make sense.
I started to research contemporary dream psychologists. I came across Edward Bynum and G. William Domhoff. I am thinking of creating a hypothetical lecture event that would feature at Rhode Island College. That is how far I’ve thought of the content of the poster. Now that I’ve thought of the content, I feel a little more comfortable inputting the typography for the poster. Since now I can include a few pieces information:
- Title of the lecture poster
- Names of Speakers
- Date, time, place
I will probably input additional information when I do more research. I am still apprehensive of the outcome of this project, since we are essentially working backwards (creating the form first, then content). I will feel better when I have most of this project behind me.
